Technical overview
- Control logic: ESP32-S3-WROOM-1 with Xtensa LX7 dual-core up to 240 MHz; integrates 512 KB SRAM, 384 KB ROM, 8 MB PSRAM, and 16 MB Flash.
- Optics: Two variants – standard (45° H) at 56°(D) × 45°(H) × 34°(V) and wide-angle (90° H) at 122°(D) × 90°(H) × 67°(V); wavelength range 8–14 µm.
- Measurement: Target temperature range -40 °C to 400 °C; module operating range -40 °C to 85 °C; NETD 125 mK; max frame rate 25 FPS (may drop due to Wi-Fi interference).
- Interfaces: USB Type-C for power and programming; onboard antenna for 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n) and Bluetooth 5 LE; two 2×10 solder pads providing 14 GPIO, I²C, and UART for expansion.
- Power: 5 V supply, nominal current about 127 mA; optional 3.7 V MX1.25 mm lithium battery header for extended operation.
- Dimensions: 29.0 × 29.0 mm compact form factor, suitable for embedded applications.
- Configuration via Android Bluetooth app: default device name “ESP32S3 BlueFi”; app supports Android only; after changing Wi-Fi parameters click “Apply Changes”.
- Host preview: In AP mode, default IP 192.168.4.1 port 3333; in STA mode the computer must join the same Wi-Fi as the module; example IP e.g. 192.168.9.131:3333.
- Firmware update: Via USB connection using flashing software; address set to 0; press Reset after flashing to restart.
- Development environment: Demos use VS Code + ESP-IDF 5.2.3; open project folder “Thermal-ESP32-Web-Demo”, select ESP32S3 board, then run “Build Project” and “Flash Device”.

Notes and version constraints
- The Bluetooth configuration app works only on Android devices; iOS is not supported.
- In AP mode some computers automatically disconnect from the “WSThermal” hotspot; reconnecting may be required.
- After viewing images in AP mode, press the Reset button before switching back to STA mode.
- Actual frame rate may fall below 25 FPS when Wi-Fi signals cause interference.
- For targets exceeding the field of view by more than 25 %, additional accuracy conditions apply (humidity < 95 %, no condensation on the lens).
- The provided demos require VS Code and ESP-IDF 5.2.3; other environments must be configured manually.
