Technical overview

  • Based on the Raspberry Pi RP2040 microcontroller with dual-core Arm Cortex-M0+ processors running up to 133 MHz
  • Equipped with 264 KB SRAM and 2 MB onboard Flash memory for firmware and programs
  • Integrated 5×5 RGB LED matrix for displaying colors and simple graphics
  • 20 multi-function GPIO pins for flexible wiring and expansion projects
  • Peripherals include 2× SPI, 2× I2C, 2× UART, 4× 12-bit ADCs, and 16 controllable PWM channels
  • 8 programmable PIO state machines for custom peripheral support
  • USB 1.1 interface with device and host support
  • Drag-and-drop programming via USB mass storage is possible
  • Available in MicroPython, C/C++, and Arduino development environments

Commands and examples – verify before use:

set(PICO_BOARD pico CACHE STRING "Board type")

Notes and version constraints

  • When the RGB LED matrix is fully on (current approx. 350 mA), use a power adapter rated at least 500 mA
  • Do not touch the RGB LED beads while the matrix is fully illuminated
  • Keeping the RGB LED matrix fully lit for extended periods causes heat buildup, reducing LED lifespan or causing burnout
  • Flashing Pico2 firmware from MicroPython may cause the device to become unrecognized; use the firmware provided in the package instead
  • When using the VS Code extension package, the .pico-sdk environment must be correctly configured, otherwise compilation will fail
  • CMake files must not contain Chinese characters (including comments), otherwise project import may fail
