Technical overview

  • Full-color display with 4096 individual LEDs (1R1G1B per pixel).
  • Pixel pitch: 2.5 mm; resolution 64 × 64 pixels.
  • Panel dimensions: 160 mm × 160 mm.
  • Two onboard HUB75 headers: one for controller data input, one for chaining additional panels.
  • Expected power supply: 5 V / 3 A via a VH4 header; maximum power consumption ≤ 20 W.
  • Viewing angle at least 140°.
  • Controller compatibility per manufacturer: Raspberry Pi, Raspberry Pi Pico (CircuitPython), ESP32 (NodeMCU-32S), Arduino Mega 2560 and STM32F103RB.
  • For Raspberry Pi operation, the open-source project rpi-rgb-led-matrix from GitHub is used; demos are run with sudo after compiling.
  • When using Raspberry Pi Pico, CircuitPython with Mu Editor is recommended as the development environment.
  • When connecting multiple panels to a Raspberry Pi, additional pin assignments are required for the second and third display boards.

Commands and examples – verify before use:

git clone https://github.com/hzeller/rpi-rgb-led-matrix/
make -C examples-api-use
cd examples-api-use
sudo ./demo -D0 --led-no-hardware-pulse --led-cols=64 --led-rows=64
sudo ./c-example -D0 --led-no-hardware-pulse --led-cols=64 --led-rows=64
sudo ./minimal-example -D0 --led-no-hardware-pulse --led-cols=64 --led-rows=64
sudo ./text-example -f ../fonts/8x13.bdf --led-no-hardware-pulse --led-cols=64 --led-rows=64
sudo ./pixel-mover --led-no-hardware-pulse --led-cols=64 --led-rows=64
sudo ./clock -f ../fonts/7x13.bdf --led-cols=64 --led-rows=64 -d "%A" -d "%H:%M:%S" --led-no-hardware-pulse

Notes and version constraints

  • Power supply must be exactly 5 V; other voltages may damage the panel.
  • Actual PCB layout can vary slightly between production batches; the delivered unit is authoritative.
  • Raspberry Pi can share up to three panels; when using only one panel, connect only the pins marked with 😄.
  • Demo commands assume the project has been compiled beforehand.
  • When using STM32, an external 5 V / 4 A power supply is recommended to avoid I/O malfunctions.
  • Not all listed controllers were explicitly tested in the source; compatibility claims come from the manufacturer.
  • No warranty, certification, or pricing information is present in the source document; these must be confirmed separately.
