Summary

The Waveshare Zero-to-Pi3 Adapter (B) allows a Raspberry Pi Zero 2W to be used on a board with the same interfaces as the Raspberry Pi 3 Model B/B+. It provides four USB ports, an Ethernet connection via an RJ45 port, and an HDMI output. It is designed exclusively for the Zero 2W; the older Zero is not supported.

Technical overview

  • Base module: Raspberry Pi Zero 2W featuring a Broadcom BCM2710A1 quad-core SoC (Arm Cortex-A53 @ 1 GHz), 512 MB LPDDR2 SDRAM, 2.4 GHz 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 4.2 with BLE.
  • Connection: Pogo pins plug directly into the Zero board, allowing it to mount without a connector.
  • Interfaces: Four USB 2.0/1.1 expansion ports, one RJ45 Ethernet port (10/100 Mbps using an RTL8152B chip), mini-HDMI output, micro-USB OTG port, microSD slot, 40-pin GPIO header, composite video pads, and reset pad.
  • Camera: CSI-2 camera interface available.
  • Media: H.264/MPEG-4 codec support at 1080p30, plus OpenGL ES 1.1/2.0 graphics.
  • Compatibility: Supports only the Raspberry Pi Zero 2W; the original Raspberry Pi Zero is explicitly unsupported.
  • Mechanical: Thread size PM2.5*4 for screwing the Pi onto the adapter.
  • Audio: Onboard USB audio headphone jack and additional speaker port.
  • Documentation: Schematic, Zero 2W datasheet, dimensions, and test introduction are linked in the resources section.
  • Software tools: Panasonic SD Formatter, Win32DiskImager, and PuTTY are mentioned as useful utilities.

Commands and examples – verify before use:

dtoverlay=dwc2,dr_mode=host

Notes and version constraints

  • Compatibility applies only to the Zero 2W; the older Zero does not work with this adapter.
  • The Zero 2W's USB interface differs from the original Zero. If the mouse or keyboard stop responding, add the line `dtoverlay=dwc2,dr_mode=host` to /boot/config.txt.
  • Version-sensitive steps: The exact firmware/driver versions of the Zero 2W and the adapter should be confirmed before setup; the document does not state specific version numbers.
  • Adapter dimensions are not fully given in the provided text (only a link to the dimensions data).
  • No prices, stock levels, warranties, or safety certifications are mentioned in the source; these must not be added.
