Summary
The Waveshare Pico-ESP8266 is a WiFi expansion module for the Raspberry Pi Pico family. It is controlled over UART using AT commands and supports TCP/UDP communication through an embedded LWIP protocol stack. The module provides three WiFi operating modes (STA, AP, STA+AP), a PCB antenna in the 2.4 GHz band, and two function buttons for updating the AT firmware.

Notes and version constraints
- The IP addresses shown (e.g., 192.168.3.116, 192.168.3.133, 192.168.4.1) are example values from the source document and must be replaced with your own network values.
- Exiting transparent mode by sending “+++” requires the three characters to be sent consecutively without spaces or line breaks; manual typing may be too slow, so use a serial port tool instead.
- When enabling multiple connections (AT+CIPMUX=1), the message “IPMODE must be 0” can appear; the ESP8266 must then be disconnected/restarted and the command re-entered.
- The firmware version shown (AT version 1.2.0.0 / SDK 1.5.4.1) reflects an older snapshot; current versions may differ.
- Flashing steps via the Pico assume the dev_cdc_ports.uf2 file is available; the exact file and path depend on the development environment used.
