Summary

The Pico e-Paper 2.66 B is a 2.66-inch e-ink module for the Raspberry Pi Pico with a resolution of 296 × 152 pixels and red/black/white colors. It connects via SPI, requires 3.3 V, and has very low power consumption; the display retains the last image even when unpowered.

Technical overview

  • Size: 2.66 inch; screen-only outline 71.820 × 36.304 mm, driver board 74.0 × 37.0 mm
  • Resolution: 296 × 152 pixels; pixel pitch 0.202 × 0.203 mm
  • Colors: Red, Black, White; greyscale levels: 2
  • Operating voltage: 3.3 V; communication interface: SPI
  • Full refresh takes about 15 s; refresh power 42.4 mW typical; sleep current < 0.01 µA
  • A brief flicker during full refresh is normal
  • Color rendering uses two bitplanes: one for black/white and one for red/white; each byte controls 8 pixels
  • Pico pinout over an 8-pin cable: VCC→VSYS, GND→GND, DIN→GP11 (MOSI), CLK→GP10 (SCK), CS→GP9, DC→GP8, RST→GP12, BUSY→GP13
  • Sample code is provided as C and Python projects; to flash, hold BOOTSEL while connecting USB and copy the UF2 file to the recognized Pico drive

Commands and examples – verify before use:

sudo wget https://files.waveshare.com/upload/5/5a/Pico_ePaper_Code.zip
unzip Pico_ePaper_Code.zip -d Pico_ePaper_Code
git clone https://github.com/waveshare/Pico_ePaper_Code.git
cmake -DPICO_BOARD=pico -DPICO_PLATFORM=rp2040 ..
make -j9
cp epd.uf2 /media/pi/RPI-RP2/

Notes and version constraints

  • Quoted refresh time and power figures come from test runs; real-world values may differ
  • Check wiring and SPI settings (baud rate, mode) before use to avoid getting stuck on the BUSY pin
  • After deep sleep the module must be re-initialized in software; on first wake-up a partial refresh can occur – clear the screen beforehand
  • When connecting the Pico, mind the orientation (the USB logo indicates direction)
  • The demo code supports several display types; uncomment the matching type in main.c
