Summary
The module is a 0.96-inch IPS LCD with 160×80 resolution and RGB565 color format (65K colors), driven by a built-in ST7738S/ST7735S controller over 4-wire SPI. It connects directly to the Pico/Pico2 GPIO pins GP8–GP13 and can be operated via C, MicroPython, or Arduino.

Technical overview
- Operating voltage: 3.3 V / 5 V; typical operating current about 40 mA
- Display: IPS type, 160(H) × 80(V) pixels, pixel size 0.135 mm (H) × 0.1356 mm (V)
- Active display area: 21.70 mm (H) × 10.80 mm (V); module dimensions 52.00 mm (H) × 25.00 mm (V)
- Controller chip: listed as ST7738S in specifications but ST7735S in the “LCD & Controller” section – please clarify before use
- Interface: 4-wire SPI; CS active low, DC=0 for commands, DC=1 for data
- SPI timing: CPOL=0 (low idle), CPHA=0 (data captured on first edge), MSB first
- Pin mapping: VCC→VSYS, GND→GND, DIN→GP11 (MOSI), CLK→GP10 (SCK), CS→GP9, DC→GP8, RST→GP12, BL→GP13
- Display start position differs from the controller origin: offset horizontally from the 2nd pixel and vertically from the 27th pixel when initializing the full-screen area
- Demos are available in C (via CMake + Makefile), MicroPython (Thonny IDE), and Arduino IDE; firmware files are copied as .uf2 onto the removable drive
Commands and examples – verify before use:
sudo apt-get install p7zip-full
sudo wget https://files.waveshare.com/wiki/common/Pico_code.7z
7z x Pico_code.7z -o./Pico_code
cmake -DPICO_BOARD=pico -DPICO_PLATFORM=rp2040 ..
cmake -DPICO_BOARD=pico2 -DPICO_PLATFORM=rp2350 ..
make -j9
cp main.uf2 /media/pi/RPI-RP2/
cp main.uf2 /media/pi/RP2350
sudo apt upgrade thonny
Notes and version constraints
- The source contains conflicting information about the controller chip (ST7738S vs. ST7735S). The correct designation should be verified against the datasheet before use.
- The exact SPI timing values (CPHA/CPOL) are derived from a diagram; they may need adjustment on other platforms.
- Demo file names and path names may vary by version; check the current state before compiling.
- On first-time setup with the Arduino IDE, the appropriate board definition must be selected and the COM port setting checked if needed.
- No information on warranty, certifications, or safety requirements is included in the source document.
