Summary

The Pico-LCD-1.14 is a 1.14-inch IPS LCD with an ST7789VW controller, 240×135 resolution and 65K color depth (RGB565). It connects via a 4-wire SPI interface and can be wired directly to a Raspberry Pi Pico/Pico 2 or through an expansion board.

Technical overview

  • Supply voltage: 2.6 V to 5.5 V; operating current approximately 40 mA.
  • Resolution: 240 (H) × 135 (V) pixels; pixel pitch 0.1101 mm (H) × 0.1035 mm (V); active display area 14.864 mm (H) × 24.912 mm (V).
  • The ST7789VW controller natively supports 240×RGB×320 pixels, but this module only uses the 135(H)×240(V) region; initialization supports both landscape and portrait orientations.
  • Supported per-pixel color depths: 12-bit (RGB444), 16-bit (RGB565) and 18-bit (RGB666); the provided demos use RGB565.
  • SPI settings: CPOL = 0 (clock idle low), CPHA = 0 (data sampled on first clock edge); data is transmitted bitwise, MSB first and LSB last.
  • Pin mapping: VCC→VSYS, GND→GND, DIN→GP11 (MOSI), CLK→GP10 (SCK), CS→GP9 (active low), DC→GP8 (high=data write, low=command write), RST→GP12 (reset active low), BL→GP13 (backlight control).
  • Two hardware variants exist: V1 without joystick and V2 with joystick; both support direct connection or connection via a Waveshare expansion board.
  • Ready-made MicroPython firmware files are available: rp2-pico-20210418-v1.15.uf2 for Pico and rp2-pcio2-20240809-v1.24.0.uf2 for Pico 2.

Commands and examples – verify before use:

sudo apt-get install p7zip-full
cd ~
sudo wget https://files.waveshare.com/wiki/common/Pico_code.7z
7z x Pico_code.7z -o./Pico_code
cd ~/Pico_code/c/build/
cmake -DPICO_BOARD=pico -DPICO_PLATFORM=rp2040 ..
cmake -DPICO_BOARD=pico2 -DPICO_PLATFORM=rp2350 ..
make -j9
cp main.uf2 /media/pi/RPI-RP2/
cp main.uf2 /media/pi/RP2350

Notes and version constraints

  • Exact pin mappings may vary between board variants (V1/V2) and depending on the expansion board used; identify the correct board before wiring.
  • The CMake build requires a valid path to the Pico SDK (PICO_SDK_PATH); an incorrect path will cause compilation to fail.
  • MicroPython firmware filenames in the source text contain possible typos (e.g., “pcio2” instead of “pico2”); verify filenames against the official source before flashing.
  • The mentioned Thonny versions and firmware states are location- and time-dependent; verify current compatibility before use.
  • The FAQ answer about button locations contains only an image reference with no textual content; exact positions must be read visually from the original document.
