Technical overview

  • Sensor: Sony IMX477R CMOS, 12.3 MP resolution 4056 x 3040 pixels, CMOS diagonal 7.9 mm, single pixel size 1.55 µm x 1.55 µm.
  • Output formats: RAW12/RAW10/RAW8 and COMP8; integrated IR filter at 650 nm.
  • 160° field of view via an M12 lens system; suitable for Raspberry Pi, Jetson Nano, and RDK series.
  • Interface: CSI connector for connection to compatible hosts.
  • PCB construction: four layers.
  • Focal length and zoom are not programmable; the manufacturer advises against replacing the lens and recommends purchasing the official HQ Camera in M12 format.
  • White balance can vary by capture environment; adjustment is possible with OpenCV, code provided as reference only.
  • For Jetson Nano on JetPack 4.6 or later: configure via jetson-io.py, selecting camera interface options (IMX477 Dual, IMX477-A + IMX219-B).
  • Testing uses GStreamer nvarguscamerasrc; output goes to a connected HDMI/DP display.
  • On Raspberry Pi, edit /boot/config.txt (set camera_auto_detect=0, add dtoverlay=imx477) then reboot; test with libcamera-hello -t 0.
  • With compute modules, connect the camera to the carrier board, enable the camera interface via raspi-config, and test with raspistill.

Commands and examples – verify before use:

sudo /opt/nvidia/jetson-io/jetson-io.py
DISPLAY=:0.0 gst-launch-1.0 nvarguscamerasrc ! 'video/x-raw(memory:NVMM), width=1920, height=1080, format=(string)NV12, framerate=(fraction)20/1' ! nvoverlaysink -e
DISPLAY=:0.0 gst-launch-1.0 nvarguscamerasrc sensor-id=0 ! 'video/x-raw(memory:NVMM), width=1920, height=1080, format=(string)NV12, framerate=(fraction)20/1' ! nvoverlaysink -e
DISPLAY=:0.0 gst-launch-1.0 nvarguscamerasrc sensor-id=1 ! 'video/x-raw(memory:NVMM), width=1920, height=1080, format=(string)NV12, framerate=(fraction)20/1' ! nvoverlaysink -e
sudo nano /boot/config.txt
libcamera-hello -t 0
sudo raspi-config
sudo raspistill -t 0

Notes and version constraints

  • Jetson Nano configuration differs between JetPack 4.6 and earlier versions; older versions require an additional driver that may affect IMX219 usage – back up the system before installing.
  • A display must be connected via HDMI or DP for testing, since preview output goes there.
  • Replacing the lens is not recommended by the manufacturer; exact dimensions and compatibility with external lenses are not specified.
  • The provided OpenCV white-balance code originates from another camera (RPi Camera G) and is for reference only; verify applicability to IMX477-160 before use.
  • Some details such as exact camera size are not given in the source and need confirmation before publication.
  • Version-specific steps (JetPack, Raspberry Pi OS) require human verification before adoption.
