Technical overview
- Core technology: time-of-flight measurement using 940 nm near-infrared light; distance is derived from the travel time between emission and reflection.
- Measurement range 1 cm to 5 m with 1 mm resolution and a 10 Hz update rate.
- Communication via UART or CAN (shared connector type); default baud rates are 921.6 kbit/s for UART and 1 Mbit/s for CAN.
- Two output modes: active output (single module only, 10 Hz) and query output (usable in cascade setups).
- Cascading support: up to 8 modules over UART and up to 7 over CAN; each module has a unique ID.
- Adjustable field of view (FOV): 15° to 27°, offset -6° to +6°; smaller FOV improves short-range precision but reduces maximum range.
- Power supply 3.7–5.2 V with reverse-polarity protection; power consumption approximately 290 mW.
- Ambient-light resistance is limited (~10k LUX), so the sensor is primarily intended for indoor use; strong ambient light can degrade accuracy.
- Distance status codes (e.g., 0 = valid, 14 = invalid) allow additional data processing beyond the raw distance value.
- Indicator LED: fast flash (0.1 s interval) during startup/firmware update, slow flash (1 s interval) in normal operation.
Notes and version constraints
- The source does not provide explicit command lines or API calls, so the “commands” array is intentionally left empty.
- Specific firmware version details, exact microcontroller compatibility lists, or platform-specific integration notes are missing – verify before deployment.
- Cascaded wiring requires careful power-supply layout to avoid voltage drops along the chain (see the FAQ entry on cascading).
- Strong sunlight or very bright environments may reduce measurement accuracy.
- All values above come from supplier material; confirm them with your own testing before making product decisions.
