Technical overview
- Uses the CN3791 as the solar charging management chip; suitable for 3.7V lithium batteries with 6-24V solar panels.
- Supports MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking) to maximize solar panel efficiency.
- Charging inputs: DC-002 jack or screw terminal for solar input; USB input (Micro-USB or Type-C depending on variant).
- Outputs: USB port for 5V/1A and pin header for 3.3V or 5V; both outputs can be powered simultaneously.
- Multiple protection circuits: overcharge, over-discharge, reverse polarity, overheat, overcurrent.
- Operating temperature range: -40°C to 85°C.
- The MPPT SET dip switch on the back is set to the solar panel input level, e.g., 9V for a 9V panel.
- Maximum charging power is about 5W; full charge via USB (5V/2A adapter) takes about 1 hour, via solar under optimal conditions almost 2 hours.
Notes and version constraints
- Only rechargeable 3.7V lithium batteries are supported; LiFePO4 (3.2V) is not supported.
- The module does not work without a battery; both charging and discharging require a connected battery.
- Do not occupy both battery positions (14500 holder and PH2.0 connector) at the same time; use only one battery per operation.
- For iPhone charging, the D+/D- pins on the USB output must be shorted (weld a 0R resistor); without this modification, Apple devices will not charge.
- The module is intended for low-power IoT; powering a Raspberry Pi is not recommended.
- The main switch must be on for charging and discharging to work; when off, the module behaves as if the battery were removed.
- Exact compatibility with specific battery sizes/capacities should be verified before purchase; the source does not provide a complete compatibility list.
