Technical overview

  • Modular design: The STLINK-V3SET consists of a base module with a USB connection and interchangeable head connectors for different target boards.
  • Supported protocols: SWIM (Serial Wire Interface Mode) for STM8, as well as JTAG and Serial Wire Debug (SWD) for STM32 families.
  • Computer connection: Connects via standard USB; the device is detected by the operating system as a HID or serial interface.
  • Keil requirement: To use it with Keil, at least version 5.25 must be installed, since older versions may have incompatibilities.
  • Firmware update: If USB communication errors occur, outdated ST-LINK firmware can be the cause; the firmware can be updated using the ST-LINK utility.
  • Target power supply: Some target boards do not supply power to the ST-LINK; in this case, pins 2 and 19 must be short-circuited to power the ST-LINK.
  • Download issues: If a download shows that no target board was found, first ensure that the target board is powered on.
  • Debug settings: Errors such as "Cannot access Memory
  • error while accessing target
  • illegal address
  • 0x08000000
  • can occur if the "Download to Flash
  • option remains enabled under Options for Target -> Debug -> Settings -> Debug -> Download Options in Keil; it should be unchecked when only debugging.

Notes and version constraints

  • The exact firmware version and available drivers are not specified in the source text; please download the appropriate ST-LINK firmware before use.
  • Compatibility with specific STM32 or STM8 chips depends on the chip revision and the toolchain used; this must be verified before deployment.
  • If unsure about the correct wiring between the ST-LINK and the target board, consult the official wiring guide.
  • The URLs to ST resources mentioned in the source text may change; please check the current links on the official ST website.
