Summary
The Waveshare liquid level sensor produces an analog output that increases with immersion depth. The module uses the current-amplification principle of a transistor; the signal is digitized via an ADC.

Technical overview
- Detection range: 48 mm immersion depth
- Supply voltage: 2.0 V to 5.0 V (pinout note: 3.3 V–5.0 V)
- Dimensions: 19.0 mm × 63.0 mm
- Mounting hole diameter: 2.0 mm
- Output type: Analog output on AOUT
- Operating principle: Liquid contact conducts between the transistor base and the positive supply rail; the resulting collector-emitter current amplification creates a voltage across the emitter resistor for the ADC to sample.
- Pinout: AOUT (analog out), GND (ground), VCC (power)
- Pico connection: VCC → 3.3 V, GND → GND, AOUT → GP26
- STM32 connection (F103RB example): VCC → 3.3 V, GND → GND, AOUT → PA6
- Arduino UNO connection: VCC → 5 V, GND → GND, AOUT → A0
Commands and examples – verify before use:
sudo apt-get install p7zip-full
cd ~
sudo wget https://files.waveshare.com/upload/a/a0/Liquid-Level-Sensor-code.7z
7z x Liquid-Level-Sensor-code.7z -o./Liquid-Level-Sensor-code
cd ~/Liquid-Level-Sensor-code/Pico/c/build/
export PICO_SDK_PATH=../../pico-sdk
cmake ..
make -j9
cp main.uf2 /media/pi/RPI-RP2/
Notes and version constraints
- Example projects are based on STM32F103RBT6 and STM32H743; other STM32 boards require adapting connections and code.
- For Arduino boards other than UNO, compatibility must be verified by the user.
- If the output value does not change after flashing, the threshold voltage may be set too high; reduce it to an appropriate value.
- Flashing the Pico requires holding the BOOTSET button during USB connection so the RPI_RP2 disk appears.
- The provided examples use the HAL library for STM32 and require Keil MDK to build and program.
