Summary
The 2-channel RS485-to-Ethernet serial server (WSAL24962/WSAL24963) is an industrial data acquisition and IoT gateway. It features two independent RS485 channels and two Ethernet ports that can operate simultaneously. The device functions as a serial server, Modbus gateway, and MQTT gateway in a compact rail-mountable enclosure.

Technical overview
- Two RS485 channels operate independently, sending and receiving simultaneously without mutual interference.
- Two RJ45 Ethernet ports; the PoE variant supports IEEE 802.3af.
- Serial specification: baud rates 300 to 115200 bps, data bits 5–9, parity options: none, odd, even, mark, space.
- Operating modes: TCP server (up to 30 connections), TCP client (up to 7 destination IPs, coexisting with TCP server), UDP, and UDP multicast.
- Supported protocols: ETHERNET, IP, TCP, UDP, HTTP, ARP, ICMP, DHCP, DNS.
- Configuration via web browser, dynamic IP assignment through DHCP, and DNS for domain name resolution.
- Modbus gateway function: conversion between Modbus RTU and Modbus TCP, with storage and non-storage modes available.
- MQTT gateway, JSON-to-Modbus-RTU, HTTP POST/GET data transmission, and NTP time synchronization.
- Environment: operating temperature -40 °C to 85 °C, humidity 5–95 % relative humidity.
- Dimensions: 78 × 72.5 × 24.2 mm; power via DC jack (outer Ø 5.5 mm, inner Ø 2.1 mm) or screw terminal, 6–40 V DC.
Commands and examples – verify before use:
TCPClient:Waveshare_RS485_1
TCPClient:Waveshare_RS485_2
Notes and version constraints
- The IP addresses mentioned in the source (e.g., 192.168.1.200, 192.168.1.201, 192.168.1.254) are example values from the wiki; actual addresses depend on network configuration.
- Factory reset is performed by holding the RESET button for 5 seconds; afterward, both channels' IP addresses change to 192.168.1.254 and device names become WSDEV0001.
- If IP changes fail, a firmware issue may be present; upgrading to the latest firmware is recommended.
- For PoE cascading, the first stage must first receive PoE power itself, because the controller only operates after detecting the detection voltage; direct cascading may fail.
- Specific configuration parameters and firmware versions should be verified before deployment, as they may be version-sensitive.
