Technical overview
- Key specifications: measurement range 300–1250 hPa; absolute accuracy ±0.50 hPa (300–1100 hPa, 0–65 °C); relative accuracy ±0.03 hPa (700–1100 hPa, 25–40 °C).
- Resolution: 0.016 Pa in high-precision mode; sampling rate up to 200 Hz; average operating current ≈3.2 µA at 1 Hz.
- Interfaces: I2C (default address 0x77, alternative 0x76 via solder bridge) and SPI; INT pin for interrupts; onboard voltage translator supports 3.3 V/5 V operation.
- Raspberry Pi: I2C connects to SDA/SCL; SPI connects to MISO/MOSI/SCLK/CS (pin 27 for CS).
- Arduino: I2C connects to SDA/SCL; SPI uses pins 12 (MISO), 11 (MOSI), 13 (SCK), 10 (SS).
- ESP32: I2C uses pin 13 (SDA) and 14 (SCL); SPI uses pins 10 (MISO), 11 (MOSI), 9 (SCK), 12 (SS).
- Raspberry Pi Pico: I2C connects to GP2 (SDA) and GP3 (SCL); requires MicroPython firmware; demo scripts are loaded via Thonny.
- Altitude is derived from air pressure; relative altitude accuracy is approximately ±3 Pa, equivalent to ±0.25 m.
- Module dimensions: 32 mm × 20 mm; via-hole diameter 2.0 mm; operating temperature range −40 to 85 °C.
Commands and examples – verify before use:
sudo apt-get install wiringpi
sudo raspi-config
i2cdetect -y 1
make clean && make
sudo ./bmp3
Notes and version constraints
- I2C address depends on the solder bridge: 0x77 without resistor, 0x76 with a soldered 0Ω resistor. Do not solder this resistor when using SPI mode.
- Altitude values are relative and may drift over extended periods; add GPS for long-term, high-frequency altitude accuracy.
- If serial monitor data (115200 baud) does not display: check connections, communication method, and device address.
- MicroPython firmware must be installed on the Pico before running demos; offline installation involves dragging a .uf2 file into the USB drive.
- Exact pin mappings may vary by development board variant; the listed pins match the examples shown in the document (e.g., ESP32-S3-DEV-KIT-N8R8).
