Technical overview
- The HAT contains an RM520N-GL 5G Sub-6 GHz module that supports 5G/4G/3G network standards and LTE-A as well as GNSS positioning.
- A USB 3.1 port (USB 2.0 compatible) allows connection to a PC, Raspberry Pi, or Jetson Nano host board to enable high-speed 5G communication.
- An onboard M.2 B KEY slot is compatible with optional SIM7600X/EM06X/SIM82XX/RM5XX series 4G/5G M.2 modules.
- Onboard control pins and a built-in voltage level translator are enabled via DIP switches and can be used with hosts such as the Raspberry Pi or Arduino.
- An onboard USB-C connector, enabled via a switch, provides standalone power supply for the module; the onboard high-performance power circuit delivers up to 3 A output current.
- Two SIM card slots support dual-card single standby, switchable via AT command.
- The case supports wall and rail mounting.
- Supported operating systems include Raspberry Pi OS, Ubuntu, and OpenWRT; the latest versions of these three systems can use the RM520N-GL module directly without installing a separate driver.
- After plugging the module into the Raspberry Pi's USB port, recognition can be queried using the commands 'lsusb' and 'ls /dev/ttyUSB*'.
- The recognized COM ports serve the following functions: /dev/ttyUSB0: DIAG Port for outputting development messages; /dev/ttyUSB1: NMEA Port for GNSS NMEA data output; /dev/ttyUSB2: AT Port for AT Commands; /dev/ttyUSB3: Modem.

Notes and version constraints
- An external 5V power supply must be connected to the 5G module (connected to EXT PWR and switched to the EXT PWR setting); without a separate power supply for the 5G module, 5G networking disconnections and reboots may occur since it can only be powered by the USB port.
- If the module does not properly identify the usbX interface, ensure that the Raspberry Pi OS has been upgraded to the latest version, and reboot the entire system to check your SIM, antenna, module, and USB connections.
- Not all mode modules can be used under the Linux operating system; the specific results from actual tests shall prevail.
- For issues with driver installation for ASR modules, a specific driver can be installed; for Qualcomm modules, the corresponding driver needs to be installed.
- Ensure the module has booted normally, open Device Manager, go to "Other Devices", select the folder where the driver was unzipped, update the driver, and choose the path where the driver file is stored.
