Summary

The Quectel EM060K-GL is an M.2 module for fast mobile data connections and positioning. It supports LTE-A Cat 6, multiple frequency bands, and the GNSS systems GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, and Galileo. The module can be connected to PCs, Raspberry Pi, or Jetson devices via USB 3.1 (backward compatible with USB 2.0).

Technical overview

  • Form factor: Standard M.2 B KEY; compatible with QUECTEL and SIMCOM 4G/5G M.2 modules.
  • Features: Integrated multi-constellation GNSS positioning (GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, Galileo) plus support for multiple network protocols with driver and software support on Windows, Linux, and Android.
  • Dimensions: 42.0 × 30.0 × 2.3 mm.
  • Operating temperature: -30 °C to +70 °C; extended temperature: -40 °C to +85 °C.
  • LTE-FDD bands: B1, B3, B5, B7, B8, B20, B28, B32 (B32 receive-only).
  • LTE-TDD bands: B38, B40, B41.
  • 2x carrier aggregation: combinations such as B1+B1, B3+B3, B7+B5, B20+B32 (secondary carrier only B32), B38+B38, B40+B40, B41+B41.
  • Data rates: LTE-FDD up to 300 Mbps downlink / 50 Mbps uplink; LTE-TDD up to 226 Mbps downlink / 28 Mbps uplink; DC-HSPA+ 42 Mbps downlink / 5.76 Mbps uplink; WCDMA 384 kbps both directions.
  • Interfaces: USB 3.1 port for connecting to a PC, Raspberry Pi, or Jetson Nano; reserved 4× SMA-to-IPEX antenna connectors for installing or changing antenna positions.
  • Controls: Onboard PWR and RST control pins enabled via DIP switches; USB-C connector for external power supply; power switch, reset button, and LED indicator for monitoring operating status.
  • AT commands available from the HAT for diagnostics: AT, ATE, AT+CGMI, AT+CGMM, AT+CGSN, AT+CSUB, AT+CGMR, AT+IPR?, AT+CPIN?, AT+COPS?, AT+CGREG?, AT+QENG="servingcell", AT+QCFG="nwscanmode", AT+CFUN=1,1.
  • GNSS control: AT+QGPS=1 enables GNSS; AT+QGPSGNMEA="GGA" outputs NMEA data; AT+QGPSEND disables it.
  • Network mode settings: AT+QCFG="usbnet",0 = NDIS(QMI); ,1 = ECM; ,2 = MBIM; ,3 = RNDIS; ,5 = NCM.
  • Troubleshooting: For unstable network after dial-up set AT+QCFG="nat",1; if not registered to the network, check SIM card and all four antennas, then send AT+CMEE=2, AT+CPIN?, AT+COPS?, AT+QCSQ, AT+QENG="servingcell", AT+CGDCONT?.
  • Power loss: Because the module draws significant power, especially during network access, use a dual-plug USB cable connected to an external 5 V / 3 A supply.
  • Demo example on Raspberry Pi: Install minicom on /dev/ttyUSB2, send AT+QGPS=1 and AT+QGPSGNMEA="GGA", then receive NMEA data via /dev/ttyUSB1.
  • Compatibility: Tested with Fibocom FM650-CN/FM160-EAU, SIMCOM SIM8202G-M2/SIM8262E-M2/SIM8262A-M2, and Quectel RM500U-CNV/RM500Q-GL/RM502Q-AE/RM520N-GL/RM530N-GL; untested modules are not confirmed.

Notes and version constraints

  • The source contains conflicting references: The title says EM060K-GL, but many sections refer to other modules (EM06-E, RM500U, RM500Q, SIM820X, FM650). Only the specifications in the “Parameters” section clearly belong to the EM060K-GL; the remaining instructions may not apply directly to this module.
  • Some commands (e.g., AT+QCFG="usbnet",2 for MBIM) are attributed to the EM06-E in the source; whether they apply to the EM060K-GL requires manual verification.
  • The compatibility list includes modules from other manufacturers; for untested modules, the source explicitly states that support is uncertain.
  • Temperature ratings refer to the module itself; environmental factors and long-term operation require additional review.
  • The source points to external resources (demos, drivers, documents) whose availability and currency cannot be verified here.
