Summary

The JETSON-ORIN-IO-BASE-B is a Waveshare base board for the NVIDIA Jetson Orin Nano and Orin NX modules. It provides two Ethernet ports, a USB-C data port, and DC power via a round connector. The guide covers booting with or without a display, firmware updates to the “Super” versions, and system flashing via SDK Manager or script.

Technical overview

  • Compatibility: The board accepts the NVIDIA Jetson Orin Nano (8 GB/16 GB) and Jetson Orin NX modules.
  • Connectors: Two Ethernet ports, USB-C for data transfer, and a round DC power input; a power adapter is required separately.
  • Default login: Without pre-set credentials, users log in via serial port using PuTTY; when credentials are pre-installed, both username and password default to “jetson”.
  • Firmware upgrade to Super: Official kits can be updated directly to JetPack 6.1 (rev1); core modules and Waveshare kits require the official upgrade firmware from NVIDIA starting in January.
  • Flashing prerequisites: Ubuntu 20.04 or 22.04 as host or VM; enter recovery mode by shorting FC REC and GND under the module, then connect via USB data cable.
  • Two installation paths: Through the SDK Manager (interactive) or via script using L4T resources from the download center.
  • Script commands cover downloading and extracting L4T packages, installing dependencies, optionally presetting username/password, and flashing to NVMe or TF card.
  • After flashing: Remove the jumper, connect a monitor, and reboot; with preconfig the system boots straight into the desktop environment.
  • SDK installation on the board: Use “sudo apt-get update” and “sudo apt-get install nvidia-jetpack” to install SDK components later.
  • Fan control: With jetson-stats (“jtop”), fan speed can be adjusted in the manual profile.

Notes and version constraints

  • The exact availability of the official NVIDIA upgrade firmware for the “Super” version depends on its release timing (from January).
  • The URLs listed in the source text are examples of resource packages; actual versions may change.
  • Flashing requires a working Ubuntu host or VM; virtual machines need extra configuration steps during the flash process.
  • Selecting the wrong development board type in SDK Manager can lead to a faulty flash.
  • Adjusting fan speed via jtop presupposes a successful installation of jetson-stats.
