Summary

The Sense HAT (C) is a Raspberry Pi expansion with onboard sensors for motion, environmental data, color and AD measurements.

Technical overview

  • Connects via the standard 40-pin Raspberry Pi GPIO header; uses I2C at a 3.3 V logic level.
  • Onboard IMU module QMI8658C (3-axis accelerometer + 3-axis gyroscope) and AK09918C (3-axis magnetometer), each with 16-bit resolution.
  • SHTC3 measures temperature (-30 to 100 °C, ±0.2 °C) and relative humidity (0–100 % rH, ±2 %).
  • LPS22HB pressure sensor: range 260–1260 hPa, accuracy ±0.025 hPa at room temperature, rates from 1 to 75 Hz.
  • TCS34087 color sensor with 4 channels (R, G, B, C) at 16 bits per channel.
  • SGM58031 4-channel 16-bit ADC for connecting external sensors through the breakout I2C pins.
  • I2C addresses of the onboard sensors are unique: SGM58031 = 0x48, QMI8658C = 0x6B, AK09918C = 0x0C, LPS22HB = 0x5C, SHTC3 = 0x70, TCS34087 = 0x29.
  • Raspberry Pi demo programs are located under /home/pi/Sense_HAT_C_Pi/RaspberryPi/... and run on Linux.

Commands and examples – verify before use:

sudo raspi-config
sudo reboot
cd /home/pi/Sense_HAT_C_Pi/RaspberryPi/IMU/bcm2835/
sudo make clean && sudo make && sudo ./main
cd /home/pi/Sense_HAT_C_Pi/RaspberryPi/IMU/python/
sudo python IMU.py

Notes and version constraints

  • On Bookworm systems only the lgpio library is available; bcm2835 and wiringPi cannot be installed or used.
  • Mixing bcm2835/wiringPi/Python may cause abnormal GPIO header behavior; the fix is to reboot the Raspberry Pi.
  • STM32 demos require a correct serial connection on USART2 (PA2 TXD, PA3 RXD) with a 115200 baud rate.
  • Some steps are version-sensitive (e.g., installing wiringPi depending on the system release); verify the current system version before running them.
  • All statements rely solely on the supplied source text; additional compatibility, safety, or warranty claims were intentionally omitted.
