Summary

The Waveshare SIM7600G-H M.2 4G HAT is a Raspberry Pi add-on board that provides 4G/3G/2G connectivity via an M.2 socket and USB 3.1 (USB 2.0 compatible). It supports telephony, SMS, TCP/IP data, and GNSS positioning (GPS, Beidou, Glonass, Galileo, QZSS). A DIP switch enables the UART, PWR, and RST control pins; a USB-C port serves as external power input.

Technical overview

  • Supports dial-up, phone calls, SMS, TCP, UDP, MQTT, HTTP(S), and FTP(S) data communication.
  • GNSS positioning via GPS, Beidou, Glonass, Galileo, and QZSS; LBS base stations are also supported.
  • USB 3.1 port (USB 2.0 compatible) for connecting to a PC, Raspberry Pi, or Jetson Nano host board for high-speed 4G communication.
  • A DIP switch enables the on-board UART, PWR, and RST control pins for use with hosts such as Raspberry Pi or Arduino.
  • USB-C input (5 V / up to 3 A) provides stable external power for the module.
  • Power on/off switch and LED indicator for turning the module on/off and monitoring its operating status.
  • Four SMA-to-IPEX antenna connectors (two pre-soldered) allow flexible antenna placement.
  • On-board audio jack and audio decoder support phone calls (only with compatible modules, e.g., SIM82XX series; not supported by RM50XX series).

Notes and version constraints

  • Exact compatibility with other 4G/5G M.2 modules must be verified against the pinout; not all features are available for every module.
  • Certain AT commands and modes are module-dependent – consult the compatibility list in the source before use.
  • GNSS reception requires an external antenna and clear sky view; no signal can be received under rain or indoors.
  • When using RNDIS dial-up on Windows, the driver may need to be installed manually; without the correct driver, no device will be detected.
  • Dual-SIM functionality requires a module that supports dual SIM; SIM2 is on the back and is switched via AT command.
  • For troubleshooting 'chmod 777 sim7600_4G_hat_init': ensure the file exists in the current path; otherwise copy the program folder correctly into /home/pi.
