Summary

The PicoGo is a mobile robot based on the Raspberry Pi Pico. It integrates ultrasonic, LCD, Bluetooth, line-tracking and obstacle-avoidance modules to enable autonomous driving and remote control.

Technical overview

  • Base board: Standard Raspberry Pi Pico header, compatible with the Raspberry Pi Pico series.
  • Drive motors: Two N20 micro gear motors with metal gears for low noise and high accuracy.
  • Sensors: Five-channel infrared sensor (analog output) combined with a PID algorithm for stable line tracking; additional infrared obstacle-avoidance module.
  • Ultrasonic module: Measures distances; accuracy can be affected by angled reflective surfaces.
  • Display: 1.14-inch IPS color display with 240 x 135 pixels and 65K colors.
  • Bluetooth: Integrated module enables remote control via a smartphone app (Android); select device name “jDY-33-SPP”, not “JDY-33-BLE”.
  • Battery: Supports 3.7 V 14500 rechargeable batteries (not included). Note polarity when inserting; if reversed, the warning indicator lights up and the self-recovery fuse overheats—correct immediately.
  • Power supply: The onboard infrared obstacle sensor, RGB LEDs, and motors require a 5 V power supply. Without the power switch turned on, these functions will not work correctly.
  • RGB LED: Four colored LEDs at the bottom of the robot display various color values.
  • Line tracking: Can detect black lines on a white background; the black track width is 15 mm.

Notes and version constraints

  • The ADC chips differ between version 1 and version 2; the tracking demos are not compatible, although the functional effects are the same.
  • Different infrared remotes may have different key codes; when using other remotes, the codes may need to be modified.
  • During the calibration phase of line tracking, the motors rotate left and right; errors in this phase directly affect the tracking result.
  • The battery percentage display is based on a simple linear conversion of voltage; since actual voltage and charge are non-linear, errors occur.
  • When replacing batteries, the power supply must remain connected to the PicoGo, otherwise the device cannot be powered normally.
  • For cable-free operation, the demo must be saved as main.py; otherwise, errors may occur indicating that modules cannot be found.
