Technical overview

  • The display is driven directly through the Raspberry Pi's DSI interface; maximum refresh rate is 60 Hz at 800×480 pixels.
  • The capacitive touch panel supports 5-point touch and uses tempered glass with hardness up to 6H.
  • Compatible with Raspberry Pi 5/CM4/CM3+/CM3 via the 22-pin DSI1 interface; older boards (Pi 4B/3B+/3A+/3B/2B/B+/A+) use a 15-pin DSI interface.
  • Power is supplied via a 2-pin power cable connected to the 40-pin GPIO header; the Pi can optionally be mounted on the back of the display with screws.
  • For current systems (Trixie/Bookworm), brightness can be adjusted in the GUI under Control Center → Screens → DSI-2 → Brightness or via terminal using /sys/class/backlight/*/brightness.
  • Display rotation is done either through the GUI (Orientation setting) or by adding rotate=90/180/270 to /boot/cmdline.txt in the form video=DSI-1:800x480M@60,rotate=90.
  • On Bullseye/Buster, touch rotation must be configured separately after display rotation; Trixie/Bookworm support synchronized rotation of display and touch.
  • To disable touch input, add disable_touchscreen=1 at the end of config.txt; a reboot is required for the change to take effect.

Commands and examples – verify before use:

dtoverlay=vc4-kms-dsi-7inch
dtoverlay=vc4-kms-dsi-7inch,dsi0
video=DSI-1:800x480M@60,rotate=90
echo X | sudo tee /sys/class/backlight/*/brightness
disable_touchscreen=1
xset dpms force off

Notes and version constraints

  • The exact steps for touch rotation under Bullseye/Buster are incompletely shown in the source; please verify manually before implementation.
  • For Pi 5/CM4/CM3+/CM3 there are two MIPI DSI interfaces; the correct interface (DSI1 recommended by default) must be selected correctly.
  • The command xset dpms force off applies only to Bullseye and Buster; other systems may require alternative methods.
  • Some sections of the source contain placeholders and incomplete text passages; all uncertain details should be verified before use.
