Technical overview
- Uses the standard Raspberry Pi 40-pin GPIO header and fits common Raspberry Pi boards.
- Uses the SC16IS752 (SPI-to-UART) and SP3232 (RS232 transceiver) chip combination.
- Transfers data at rates from 300 to 921600 bps over an SPI interface.
- Provides power isolation, ADI magnetic coupler, and TVS diodes for surge protection.
- Indicates operating state via onboard LEDs for power and transmit/receive status.
- Breaks out the SPI control pins (VCC, GND, SCLK, MOSI, MISO, CS, IRQ) as headers for external control boards.
Commands and examples – verify before use:
sudo nano /boot/config.txt

sudo reboot
ls /dev
sudo apt-get install wiringpi
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install python-pip
sudo pip install RPi.GPIO
sudo apt-get install python-serial
sudo apt-get install p7zip-full

sudo ./main
Notes and version constraints
- The exact path structure of example code may vary by OS version; local verification required.
- Modifying config.txt requires a reboot; on Ubuntu the file is located under /boot/firmware instead of /boot.
- Simultaneous use with the 2-Channel RS485 HAT is not supported according to the source.
- Stacking multiple 2-Channel RS232 HATs on a single Raspberry Pi is not supported; a maximum of four channels is possible.
- For communication issues, check flow control, wiring, parity, and baud rate settings.
