Summary

Technical guide for the Waveshare interface converter: USB is converted to RS232, RS485 or TTL; simultaneous conversion between the serial standards is not supported.

Technical overview

  • Supported directions: only USB to RS232, RS485 or TTL. The reverse direction and direct conversion among RS232, RS485 and TTL are not supported
  • VCC pin: selectable 5 V or 3.3 V (max. 50 mA) to power connected devices; leave unconnected if the device has external power
  • Isolation voltage: 5 V (industrial isolation)
  • RS232 signal levels: logic 0 at +5…+15 V, logic 1 at −5…−15 V (standard RS232 interface)
  • TTL and RS232 are full-duplex; test by shorting RXD and TXD. RS485 is half-duplex; test using an external USB-to-RS485 device
  • For RS485 proximity communication anomalies (received data > 0): remove the 120-ohm termination resistor
  • RS485 grounding: not mandatory but a GND connection is recommended for long-distance links, stability and anti-interference
  • The module is a hardware-level interface switch: no Modbus protocol support, but it can connect to Modbus devices via its onboard RS485/RS232/TTL interface

Notes and version constraints

  • No commands present in the source; commands array left empty
  • Source contains unresolved placeholders such as {{{name3}}} through {{{name6}}} and {{{5}}}; some product names and answers may be missing
  • Exact mounting hole size is given as a placeholder in the source and remains unspecified
  • Driver installation per OS must be confirmed manually; no automatic driver detection
  • Modbus function codes and data format require separate protocol knowledge; the module itself does not implement Modbus
