Technical overview
- Resolution: 1600 × 1200 pixels; active area approx. 270.40 × 202.80 mm; pitch 0.169 mm
- Controller: IT8951; interfaces: USB / SPI / I80; operating voltage 5 V
- Full refresh time under 1 s; refresh power approx. 1.2 W, standby approx. 0.1 W
- Operating temperature range: 0 to 50 °C; storage: −25 to 70 °C
- Raspberry Pi SPI wiring: CS to pin 8, RST to pin 17, HRDY to pin 24, plus MISO/MOSI/SCK accordingly
- On Raspberry Pi the SPI interface must be enabled via raspi-config; when using lg/gpiod also add dtoverlay=spi0-0cs to /boot/config.txt
- Demo source code is obtained via a 7z archive or GitHub; by default the BCM library is used, with LGPIO or GPIOD as alternatives
- When running the demo, read the VCOM value from the FPC and pass it as a parameter, e.g. “sudo ./epd -1.50 0”

Notes and version constraints
- The source contains placeholders such as {{{name3}}} and {{{userDefinedInfo}}}; these values are unclear and require human confirmation.
- The VCOM value must be read individually from the FPC; a fixed value must not be assumed.
- USB development on Windows requires signing an NDA with the Waveshare team; according to the source this is currently not available to individual users.
- At temperatures below 25 °C color deviation may occur; stabilize the device at 25 °C for 6 hours before refreshing.
- Leaving the same image on screen for extended periods can cause irreversible burn-in; refresh at least every 24 hours.
- Direct sunlight dries out the charged particles; UV protection is required for outdoor use.
- Hot-plugging is not supported; connect all cables before powering the device.
- The FPC and glass panel are fragile; reinforcing the FPC with tape is recommended during development.
