Technical overview
- Resolution 128×128 pixels at 65K color depth; driver IC is SSD1351 with a 128×128×18-bit SRAM buffer.
- Two operating modes: 4-wire SPI (default) and 3-wire SPI, switchable via a solderable resistor on the module's rear side.
- In 4-wire SPI, the DC line selects mode: low = command byte, high = data byte(s).
- In 3-wire SPI, the DC signal is omitted; instead an extra bit is prepended to each transfer to distinguish command from data; transfers are 9-bit blocks.
- Pins: VCC (3.3 V or 5 V), GND, DIN (MOSI), SCL/SCK, CS (active-low), DC, RST (active-low).
- Operating voltage must be chosen between 3.3 V and 5 V; ensure supply and logic levels match, otherwise the module will not work properly.
- For Raspberry Pi: enable SPI via 'sudo raspi-config' under Interfacing Options -> SPI -> Yes, then reboot.
- Available libraries: BCM2835, WiringPi, lgpio and Python (spidev, PIL, numpy); on Bookworm only lgpio is usable.
- C test demo: run 'sudo make clean && sudo make -j 8' in the 'c' directory, then 'sudo ./main 1.5rgb'.
- Python test demo: 'cd python/example' and run 'sudo python3 OLED_1in5_rgb_test.py'.

sudo ./main 1.5rgb
cd python/example
sudo python3 OLED_1in5_rgb_test.py
Notes and version constraints
- The source contains placeholders such as {{{name2}}} through {{{name6}}} and {{{userDefinedInfo}}}, indicating incomplete metadata – complete these before publication via human review.
- Voltage choice 3.3 V vs. 5 V: The source explicitly warns that supply voltage and logic level must match; an incorrect combination causes malfunction.
- Library usability is version-sensitive: On Bookworm, per the source, BCM2835 and WiringPi cannot be installed; only lgpio is available.
- The stated current draw (~60 mA full white / ~4 mA full black at 3.3 V) comes from the FAQ section; exact values should be confirmed with the supplier.
- The module has no backlight and only lights up after programming – without control commands the display stays dark.
- The demo file is downloaded from an external URL; if network access is unavailable or paths have changed, the download may fail.
