Summary
The BLE4.0 development and evaluation kit is based on the nRF51822 SoC (Bluetooth 4.0 LE / 2.4 GHz RF) for ultra-low-power wireless applications. It consists of the BLE400 motherboard and the Core51822 module.

Technical overview
- The BLE400 motherboard provides a battery holder, multiple power supply options, accessible I/O pins, an integrated CP2102 UART bridge, and user LEDs and keys.
- Supported interfaces include Bluetooth, I2C, SPI, UART, and USB-to-UART.
- For the PC development environment, use Windows XP or Windows 7, nRFgo Studio v1.14 or higher, Keil MDK-ARM Lite v4.54 or higher, and J-Link software v4.52b or higher.
- Mobile apps: iOS users install “nRF Utility” from the App Store; Android users (4.3 or later) download, unzip, and install “nRFToolbox.”
- To connect with a mobile phone: install the CP2102 driver, connect the mini USB port to a PC, and select the matching serial port at 38400 baud, 8 data bits, and 1 stop bit.
- Sending the character “Y” or “y” starts broadcasting and turns on LED0. After connecting via nRFToolbox, LED0 turns off and LED1 turns on.
- To compile blinky_example: first erase all preinstalled programs in nRFgo Studio under “nRF51 Programming” > “Erase all”, then open the project in Keil, compile with F7, and download it.
- To program ble_app_hrs: first load the SoftDevice s110_nrf51822_6.0.0_softdevice.hex via “Program SoftDevice”, then open the example project in Keil, compile, and download it.
Commands and examples – verify before use:
Send 'Y' or 'y' over serial to start broadcasting
nRFgo Studio: nRF51 Programming > Erase all
Keil: press F7 to build
nRFgo Studio: nRF51 Programming > Program SoftDevice > Browse (choose s110_nrf51822_6.0.0_softdevice.hex) > Program
Notes and version constraints
- The exact versions of nRFgo Studio, Keil MDK-ARM, and J-Link must match the SDK version in use; mismatches can cause download failures.
- If KEIL reports a download error while nRFgo Studio works, verify the flash-download settings and confirm that the SDK was installed correctly.
- The product ships without a battery; a CR1220 button cell must be inserted for clocking operation.
- The Bluetooth-to-serial demo requires the phone to support Bluetooth 4.0 and to have the relevant app installed.
- Several steps depend on the chosen SDK and SoftDevice versions; if these components change, paths and settings must be rechecked.
