Summary

The Waveshare JETSON-ORIN-NX-16G-DEV-KIT is built around the NVIDIA Jetson Orin NX module (8 GB/16 GB) and the JETSON-IO-BASE-B carrier board. It delivers up to 100 TOPS of AI performance, features a 1024-core Ampere GPU with 32 tensor cores and an 8-core Arm Cortex-A78AE CPU. The kit optionally includes a 256 GB NVMe drive, a camera (Kit A), or a touch screen (Kit B).

Technical overview

  • Module: NVIDIA Jetson Orin NX system-on-module in NANO size; 8 GB or 16 GB variants available.
  • GPU: 1024-core NVIDIA Ampere architecture with 32 tensor cores; up to 100 TOPS of AI performance.
  • CPU: 8-core Arm Cortex-A78AE v8.2 64-bit CPU with 2 MB L2 and 4 MB L3 cache.
  • Memory: 16 GB 128-bit LPDDR5 at 102.4 GB/s bandwidth.
  • Carrier board JETSON-IO-BASE-B provides M.2, HDMI, USB and other peripheral interfaces.
  • Kit variant A adds an 8 MP camera (3280×2464) for face recognition, road-sign and license-plate recognition.
  • Kit variant B adds a 13.3-inch capacitive touch display (1920×1080, 10-point touch, built-in speaker).
  • Default login: username 'jetson', password 'jetson' if pre-configured. Without a display, log in via serial port using PuTTY.
  • Firmware upgrade to Super: For the core module and Waveshare kits, wait for the official NVIDIA firmware after January; SDK Manager is not suitable—script-based flashing of Jetpack 6.2 is required.
  • Flashing requires Ubuntu 20.04/22.04 as host; recovery mode is entered by shorting FC REC and GND under the module.

Notes and version constraints

  • The firmware update to Jetson Orin NX Super depends on an official NVIDIA release after January; it is currently unclear whether it is already available.
  • Script-based flashing requires the exact matching Jetpack version (here 6.2); newer versions may require different commands.
  • Recovery mode requires a physical short under the module—incorrect execution could damage the module.
  • The provided wget URLs are version-specific (r36.4.3); for other Jetpack versions the paths must be adjusted.
  • SDK Manager works only for the official kit; for Waveshare kits only the script method is valid.
  • No information on power supply values, certifications, or warranty in the source text—inventing such values is not permitted.
