Technical overview
- Resolution: 800 x 480 pixels; capacitive touch panel supporting 5-point touch; toughened glass rated up to 6H hardness.
- Supported boards: Raspberry Pi 5, CM4, CM3+, CM3, Pi 4B, 3B+, 3A+, 3B, 2B, B+, A+.
- Connection for older Pi models (up to 4B/CM4): use an FFC cable to the 15-PIN DSI port.
- Connection for newer boards (Pi 5/CM4/CM3+/CM3): use a DSI-Cable-12cm cable to the 22-PIN DSI1 port.
- Software setup via official image: add dtoverlay=vc4-kms-v3d for older systems; for Pi 5/CM4 it is recommended to update to the latest system version after flashing and reboot.
- Backlight control via terminal: echo X | sudo tee /sys/class/backlight/*/brightness, where X ranges from 0 to 255.
- Display rotation: via GUI in Trixie/Bookworm; in Lite versions via video=DSI-1:800x480M@60,rotate=90 in /boot/cmdline.txt.
- Touch rotation: in Bookworm via a udev rule (99-waveshare-touch.rules); in Bullseye/Buster via an Xorg setting (CalibrationMatrix).
Commands and examples – verify before use:
dtoverlay=vc4-kms-v3d
dtoverlay=vc4-kms-dsi-7inch
dtoverlay=vc4-kms-dsi-7inch,dsi0
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get full-upgrade -y
sudo reboot
echo 100 | sudo tee /sys/class/backlight/*/brightness
video=DSI-1:800x480M@60,rotate=90
display_rotate=1
ENV{ID_INPUT_TOUCHSCREEN}=="1", ENV{LIBINPUT_CALIBRATION_MATRIX}="0 -1 1 1 0 0"
Option "CalibrationMatrix" "0 1 0 -1 0 1 0 0 1"
Notes and version constraints
- The exact DSI interface (DSI0 or DSI1) depends on the board; for Pi 5/CM4, DSI1 is default while DSI0 is only available on certain models.
- Specific rotation and touch settings are OS-dependent (Trixie, Bookworm, Bullseye, Buster, Stretch/Jessie). Verify your Linux version before running commands.
- Updating to the latest system version requires a network connection.
- The exact location of the large capacitors for troubleshooting must be confirmed using the visual material.
- Some steps require manual confirmation by a technician.
