Technical overview
- Resolution: 128 × 64 pixels
- Driver IC: SSD1315
- Interfaces: 4-wire SPI and I2C
- Supply voltage: 3.3 V or 5 V at VCC; IO high-level voltage matches the supply voltage
- Housing dimensions: 26.0 mm × 26.0 mm; active display area: 21.74 mm × 11.18 mm
- Operating temperature: −20 °C to 70 °C; storage temperature: −30 °C to 80 °C
- Viewing angle: greater than 160°
- Color variants: Blue, White, Yellow/Blue (top quarter yellow area)
- I2C address selection via resistors R1/R2 on the back: R1 = 0 Ω for SPI, R2 unpopulated; R2 = 0 Ω gives I2C address 0x3C, R2 open gives 0x3D
- Raspberry Pi connection via 7-pin cable: DIN→MOSI/SDA (pin 19/3), CLK→SCLK/SCL (pin 23/5), CS→CE0 (pin 24), DC→pin 25, RES→pin 27
- For Raspberry Pi, the SPI or I2C interface must be enabled via “raspi-config → Interfacing Options”, then reboot
- Available libraries for Raspberry Pi: BCM2835, WiringPi, and lgpio; under Bookworm only lgpio is usable
- C demo invocation: “sudo ./main 0.96” in the “c” directory after compiling with “sudo make -j 8”
- Python demo invocation: “sudo python3 OLED_0in96_test.py” in the “python/example” directory
Commands and examples – verify before use:
sudo raspi-config
sudo reboot
sudo make clean
sudo make -j 8
sudo ./main 0.96
sudo python3 OLED_0in96_test.py
Notes and version constraints
- The exact hardware configuration (R1/R2) depends on the desired interface; when switching to I2C, R2 must be populated or removed accordingly
- When using STM32, the I2C demo uses the analog I2C interface – wiring must be checked carefully
- Do not display the same screen for extended periods to avoid burn-in (residual images)
- Be careful with power polarity: do not reverse the power connection
- Under the Bookworm operating system, BCM2835 and WiringPi are unavailable; only lgpio works
- Compatibility with specific Raspberry Pi generations and kernel versions is not fully specified in the source
