Summary

The RS485-HUB-8P is an industrial-grade isolated RS485 hub with one master port and eight slave ports. It expands an RS485 bus into a star topology, provides hardware isolation against transients and interference, and can relay weakened signals over long runs. Power is supplied via screw terminals at DC 9–24 V.

Technical overview

  • One master port (485A/485B) connects the device to the host; eight slave ports (OUT1A–OUT8A, OUT1B–OUT8B) each support up to 32 nodes.
  • Baud rates are self-adaptive from 300 to 460800 bps; transmission media are standard parallel or twisted-pair cables.
  • Communication is half-duplex over two wires (A/B); maximum range is 1200 m at 9600 bps, with shorter distances at higher rates.
  • Hardware isolation protects the RS485 line from lightning strikes, high voltage, strong current, and interference; the hub acts as a transparent signal repeater without its own protocol logic.
  • For runs exceeding 1200 m, the hub can be used as a relay to compensate for signal attenuation and extend communication distance.
  • Power supply: DC 9–24 V via screw terminals; at 12 V the no-load current is about 0.03 A (about 0.36 W).
  • Operating temperature range: -45 °C to +85 °C, humidity below 95 % RH.
  • When connecting multiple hubs to the same host interface, three prerequisites apply: consistent serial parameters, a half-duplex question-and-answer protocol such as Modbus RTU, and unique device addresses.
  • Multiple hubs should not be connected in parallel to the host; use a handshake cascade connection, and avoid setting the scan cycle too short.

Notes and version constraints

  • No specific command-line commands are documented; the device operates purely at the physical layer and functions as a transparent repeater without its own command language.
  • The exact cascade wiring of multiple hubs is only described schematically in the document; the actual cabling should be verified by a technician.
  • The power figure (12 V, 0.03 A / 0.36 W) comes from the FAQ and refers to no-load conditions; loaded behavior is not specified.
  • The 32-node limit per port assumes all connected devices share identical serial parameters; mismatches may cause communication failures.
  • The isolation protection guards against transients but does not replace external surge-protection devices for critical installations.
