Technical overview

  • M.2 form factor with Key B slot; compatible with Quectel RM50xQ, EM06, EM12/EM12xR/EM121R-GL, and EM160R-GL.
  • Supports 5G NR sub-6 GHz bands n1, n2, n3, n5, n7, n8, n12, n20, n25, n28, n38, n40, n41, n48, n66, n71, n77, n78, n79 (NSA) and n1, n2, n3, n5, n7, n8, n12, n13, n14, n18, n20, n25, n26, n28, n29, n30, n38, n40, n41, n48, n66, n70, n71, n75, n76, n77, n78, n79 (SA).
  • LTE-FDD bands: B1, B2, B3, B4, B5, B7, B8, B12, B13, B14, B17, B18, B19, B20, B25, B26, B28, B29, B30, B32, B66, B71; LTE-TDD: B34, B38, B39, B40, B41, B42, B43, B48.
  • Integrated GNSS receiver supports GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, and Galileo; QZSS is supported only by RM520N-GL and RM530N-GL according to the source.
  • Supply voltage: 3.3–4.4 V (typical 3.7 V).
  • Power consumption: 78 µA at shutdown, 5.1 mA at hibernate, 57 mA at USB 2.0 idle, 71 mA at USB 3.0 idle.
  • Recommended carrier boards: USB TO M.2 B KEY (for Windows/Linux via USB 3.0) and M.2 TO 4G/5G HAT (for Raspberry Pi).
  • For Windows, installing MBIM drivers is recommended; if the NIC device is not detected, the mode can be set to MBIM via AT command.
  • GNSS test: Connect passive GPS antenna to ANT3 (L1), enable with AT+QGPS=1, query position with AT+QGPSLOC=0, then read NMEA data from the Quectel USB NMEA port.
  • Available software tools: QCOM, Qnavigator; drivers: Windows NDIS and MBIM drivers; datasheet: RM520N Series AT Command Datasheet.

Commands and examples – verify before use:

AT+QCFG="usbnet",2
AT+CFUN=1,1
AT+QGPS=1
AT+QGPSLOC=0
AT+QGPS=0

Notes and version constraints

  • Actual speed measurement results are affected by network coverage, congestion, and base station distribution.
  • During speed tests, connect the USB TO M.2 B KEY to a full-power USB 3.0 port because the module draws significant power.
  • GNSS positioning test cannot be performed in rainy weather.
  • The IMEI of a module cannot be changed – it is an inherent attribute of each module.
  • When using with Jetson Orin Nano, use the verified Jetpack 6.0 (Ubuntu 22.04) system, as some system drivers are not supported.
  • If the NIC is detected but the NET light is off and no network connection is established, refer to the FAQ in the original document.
