Technical overview

  • V1 and V2 versions exist; all future updates are based on V2, while V1 is no longer updated
  • Supports direct connection of 40-pin LCDs from the 70H-1024600 series
  • Gigabit Ethernet RJ45 port supporting 10/100/1000 Mbps
  • Two USB 2.0 ports; disabled by default and enabled via config.txt
  • M.2 slot supports only PCIe devices such as NVMe SSDs, not SATA drives
  • RTC chip PCF85063 on I2C-10 with address 0x51
  • Fan connector supports 5V fans only; 12V fans are not supported
  • BOOT jumper selects boot source: connected = USB Type-C boot, removed = eMMC or TF card boot
  • No DSI interface; only CSI camera interfaces are provided
  • This expansion board does not support PoE functionality

Commands and examples – verify before use:

dtoverlay=dwc2,dr_mode=host
dtparam=i2c_vc=on
dtoverlay=i2c-rtc,pcf85063a,i2c_csi_dsi
sudo hwclock -w
sudo hwclock -s
sudo hwclock --set --date="9/8/2021 16:45:05"
sudo hwclock -r
libcamera-hello -t 0
libcamera-hello --list-cameras
libcamera-hello --camera 1
libcamera-jpeg -o test.jpg
libcamera-vid -t 10000 -o test.h264
sudo raspivid -t 0 -cs 0
sudo raspivid -t 0 -cs 1
sudo rm -rf /boot/dt-blob.bin

Notes and version constraints

  • USB 2.0 is disabled by default; without dtoverlay=dwc2,dr_mode=host, USB devices will not be recognized
  • With newer Raspberry Pi OS images (from October 2021), the error 'config failed, hub doesn't have any ports! (err -19)' may appear; remove otg_mode=1 and add the USB overlay
  • M.2 slot supports only PCIe devices; some official images require recompiling the kernel
  • When using the M.2 interface, use matching screws; incorrect lengths can damage the CM4 core
  • No power protection circuitry is present; avoid short circuits
  • While powered on, only USB and network connectors may be unplugged
  • Normal operation requires a 5V/2A power supply; otherwise automatic shutdown or clock throttling may occur
