Summary

The JETSON-NANO-DEV-KIT is a development/expansion kit designed by Waveshare based on the NVIDIA Jetson Nano core module. It mirrors the official B01 kit in size and I/Os, replaces the TF slot on the core board with a 16 GB eMMC chip, and simplifies power input via a DC jack without jumpers.

Technical overview

  • Core: NVIDIA Jetson Nano module with Maxwell GPU (128 CUDA cores, 0.5 TFLOPS FP16), quad-core ARM Cortex-A57 CPU, 4 GB LPDDR4 at 1600 MHz (25.6 GB/s), and 16 GB eMMC 5.1 storage.
  • Video: Encoder up to 250 MP/s (1x 4K@30 HEVC); decoder up to 500 MP/s (1x 4K@60 HEVC).
  • Cameras: 12-channel MIPI CSI-2 D-PHY 1.1 (18 Gbps), configurable as 3x4 or 4x2.
  • Interfaces: Gigabit Ethernet (10/100/1000Base-T), 4x USB 3.0, HDMI, DisplayPort, micro-USB for 5 V power or data transfer, 2x MIPI CSI camera connectors.
  • JETSON-IO-BASE-A: 40-pin GPIO header (Raspberry Pi compatible), M.2 Key E for external Wi-Fi adapter (e.g., AC8265), PoE pins (PoE module not included), TF card slot, fan headers (1.25 mm and 2.54 mm), multi-function 12-pin header for power-on, disabling auto-power-on, force recovery, and reset.
  • JETSON-NANO-LITE-DEV-KIT: Simplified carrier board variant with 2x USB 2.0 instead of 4x USB 3.0, only 1x CSI connector, plus dedicated power and reset buttons; appearance and interfaces are compatible with the official 2 GB developer kit but it uses the 4 GB Nano module.
  • System installation: Requires Ubuntu 18.04 as host OS; system programming is done via the SDK Manager tool or direct Jetpack downloads.
  • Boot options: The kit supports both USB flash drive booting and TF card booting; when purchased from Waveshare, Jetpack 4.6 is pre-flashed to the eMMC and SDMM3 for TF cards is enabled.
  • Hardware control: GPIO for toggling an LED, I2C diagnosis with i2cdetect, and SPI/PWM extensions require device-tree modifications and reprogramming.
  • AI environment: PIP installation, CUDA setup, TensorFlow and PyTorch configuration, and YOLOv4 inference are covered in the manual.
  • Operating temperature range: 0–70 °C.
  • Safety feature: Overvoltage protection is present; the carrier board supports only the Jetson Nano core board, not other modules.
  • Compatibility note: Per the FAQ, JETSON-IO-BASE-A is not fully compatible with the A02 core board, only with the official B01.
  • M.2 key does not support SSDs; it is intended for external Wi-Fi adapters (NGFF/M.2).

Notes and version constraints

  • The source contains template placeholders (e.g., {{{name4}}}, {{{userDefinedInfo}}), indicating incomplete templates; specific values must be confirmed against the original manual.
  • Using SPI and PWM requires reprogramming the system; exact steps are version-sensitive and should be verified before execution.
  • When purchased through Waveshare, Jetpack 4.6 is already flashed to the eMMC; image versions below Jetpack 4.6 need to be reinstalled – please confirm before use.
  • Compatibility with the A02 core board is limited; only the official B01 is fully supported.
  • No pricing, stock levels, certifications, or warranty information are present in the source; these must not be invented.
