Technical overview
- M.2 B-key connector compatible with 5G modules from the RM500U-CN, RM500Q-GL, RM500Q-AE and RM502Q-AE series.
- USB 3.1 port (backward compatible with USB 2.0) for connecting to a PC, Raspberry Pi or Jetson Nano host.
- Two SIM card slots: dual-card single standby; switchable via AT command where the module supports it.
- Four IPEX-4 antenna connectors for 3G/4G/5G/GNSS.
- Onboard voltage level translator for UART, PWR and RST control pins, enabled through a DIP switch.
- USB-C input for external power (5 V / 3 A); power switch selectable between USB and EXT PWR modes.
- Power on/off switch, reset button and LED indicator for monitoring operating status.
- Built-in cooling fan cools both the Raspberry Pi and the 5G module simultaneously.
- Supported operating systems: Windows, Linux, Android; protocols include TCP/IP, IPv4/IPv6, Multi-PDP, FTP/FTPS, HTTP/HTTPS, MQTTS, DNS, SSL3.0.
- Data rates: 5G Sub-6 GHz up to 2.4 Gbps downlink / 500 Mbps uplink; LTE up to 1 Gbps downlink / 200 Mbps uplink.
Commands and examples – verify before use:
lsusb
ls /dev/ttyUSB*
Notes and version constraints
- Exact band and regional support depends on the chosen 5G module; select modules according to local operator network coverage and supported frequency bands.
- Dual-SIM functionality requires module support; not all supported modules support two cards.
- Audio function is supported by the SIM82XX series but not by the RM50XX series.
- When handling IPEX antenna connectors: gently wiggle side-to-side and pull straight out without force; connectors are fragile.
- Fan noise may increase after prolonged use as bearing lubricant evaporates – this is normal, not a fault.
- Modules without USB function (PCIe only) are not supported; when using other modules, verify pin compatibility by actual testing.
