Summary

The Waveshare X3 Pi CSI adapter enables connecting Raspberry Pi cameras to the RDK X3 development board. It converts the board's CSI interface into a 15-pin 2-lane interface, allowing cameras such as OV5647, IMX219, or IMX477 to be connected.

Technical overview

  • Purpose: Converts the RDK X3 CSI connector into a 15-pin 2-lane connection for Pi cameras.
  • Setup: Connect the X3 to an HDMI display before testing the camera.
  • Connection: Insert the cable with its metal side facing down into the camera port.
  • Default state: The camera interface is enabled by default and works when the device is powered on.
  • Testing: Use the system's built-in AI demo; ensure the HDMI display shows the preview image.
  • Terminal commands: `cd /app/ai_inference/03_mipi_camera_sample`, then `sudo python3 mipi_camera.py`.
  • SSH note: When logging in via SSH, run `export DISPLAY=:0` first.
  • Compatible cameras (selection): OV5647-70, various RPi cameras (B/C/D/E/F/G/H/I/M), IMX219 variants, IMX477-160.

Commands and examples – verify before use:

export DISPLAY=:0
cd /app/ai_inference/03_mipi_camera_sample
sudo python3 mipi_camera.py

Notes and version constraints

  • The compatibility list only contains model names from the source material; actual functionality of individual cameras must be verified before purchase.
  • Availability of the path `/app/ai_inference/03_mipi_camera_sample` and the script `mipi_camera.py` depends on the installed system version.
  • If the preview does not display correctly: check the relevant script and set the trigger level of Reset pin G (GPIO 19) to high — this requires manual adjustment on the board.
  • No information on dimensions, prices, stock, warranty, or certifications is present in the source material.
