Technical overview

  • Uses a 13.3-inch IPS panel with 1920 x 1080 HD resolution and one-way mirror glass.
  • Integrated CM4 module: 64-bit, 1.5 GHz quad-core processor, dual-band Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 5.0.
  • Capacitive touch panel made of toughened glass (6H hardness) supporting up to 10 touch points.
  • Includes built-in speaker and microphone; voice recognition uses the Snowboy hotword detection engine.
  • Mounting via 75 x 75 mm spacing holes (M4 screw holes) for wall mounting; includes a stand with a 75° tilt angle.
  • USB2.0 port is disabled by default to save power; enabling it requires adding 'dtoverlay=dwc2, dr_mode=host' to config.txt.
  • For HDMI output, set hdmi_group=2, hdmi_mode=82, and hdmi_cvt 1920 1080 60 6 0 0 0 in /boot/config.txt.
  • Installation involves writing the Raspberry Pi OS to a micro SD card, creating an empty SSH file in the BOOT directory, then booting via SSH or directly with keyboard/mouse.

Notes and version constraints

  • Google Assistant Service usage is limited to a maximum of 500 requests per day.
  • If the wake word does not work, a new model must be created on the Snowboy website and copied into the ~/MagicMirror/modules/MMM-VoiceAssistant/pi directory.
  • With newer Raspberry Pi OS versions (after October 30, 2021), the USB2.0 port may report an error ('config failed, hub doesn't have any ports!'); removing otg_mode=1 and adding dtoverlay=dwc2,dr_mode=host resolves this.
  • Modifying the lightdm settings requires a reboot to take effect.
  • When using alternative power supplies, ensure that the supply ripple remains within ±5%.
