Summary

The Waveshare CM4-NANO-B is a compact base board for the Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4 (CM4). It exposes the module's main interfaces while staying close to the CM4 footprint, and provides an RJ45 Gigabit Ethernet port, a USB 2.0 header, CSI/DSI camera connectors, a mini HDMI output, and a 3.5 mm audio jack.

Technical overview

  • The board is designed as a baseboard that exposes the CM4's interfaces without significantly exceeding the module's compact dimensions.
  • It includes an RJ45 Gigabit Ethernet port supporting 10/100/1000 Mbit/s access.
  • A USB 2.0 header is present; the port is disabled by default to save power and must be enabled via config.txt.
  • CSI and DSI connectors are also disabled by default and require loading a device-tree overlay, which may occupy I2C buses.
  • The mini HDMI output supports 4K at 30 fps.
  • A 3.5 mm audio jack is integrated; audio is controlled via GPIO and requires configuration in config.txt.
  • A micro SD card slot is provided only for the Lite version of the CM4.
  • A user button is connected to GPIO21 and pulled up to GPIO_VREF through R16 (10 kΩ); when idle, GPIO21 is high, and pressing pulls it low.
  • A DC buck circuit powers DSI, CSI, and GPIO with 3.3 V.
  • A BOOT switch controls whether the download mode over USB-C is entered on power-on (ON) or the system starts from eMMC or SD card (OFF).

Notes and version constraints

  • Do not hot-plug any devices except USB and HDMI.
  • The module has no protection circuitry; avoid short-circuiting the power supply.
  • Normal operation of the CM4 requires 5 V / 2 A; otherwise issues such as automatic shutdown or clock throttling may occur.
  • USB, CSI, DSI, and audio are disabled by default and must be explicitly enabled.
  • When programming via USB-C, do not connect other devices to ensure stable power.
  • When using two cameras and DSI1, compiling the appropriate device-tree overlay is recommended; this may cause HDMI1 to stop outputting video.
  • The exact pinout of the 3.5 mm audio jack is not fully described in the source and may need verification against the datasheet.
  • Ethernet_SYNC_IN/OUT are not brought out on the CM4-NANO-B.
  • If the camera model you use is not listed in the table, the correct dtoverlay line must be determined individually.
