Technical overview
- Integrated controller: Raspberry Pi CM4 (quad-core Cortex-A72 ARMv8 64-bit SoC @ 1.5 GHz), dual-band Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 5.0.
- Display: 13.3-inch IPS panel with 1920x1080 resolution and a tempered glass capacitive touch panel supporting up to 10-point touch (hardness 6H).
- Audio: Built-in speaker, high-quality MEMS silicon microphone, and a 3.5 mm audio jack.
- Mounting: Compatible with universal wall mounts via 75x75 mm mounting holes (M4) on the back; includes a stand with a 75-degree tilt angle.
- System installation: The Raspberry Pi OS is flashed to a TF card via the USB Slave interface using a Type-C cable; SSH is enabled by creating a blank file named 'SSH' in the root directory of the card.
- Screen settings: Add hdmi_group=2, hdmi_mode=82, and hdmi_cvt 1920 1080 60 6 0 0 0 at the end of config.txt (no spaces around the equals sign).
- USB2.0: Disabled by default to save power; to enable it, add dtoverlay=dwc2,dr_mode=host to config.txt and reboot.
- RS232: Adding dtoverlay=uart3 to /boot/config.txt provides the serial interface under /dev/ttyAMA1.
- RS485: Use raspi-config to enable the hardware serial port; the device appears under /dev/ttyS0.
Commands and examples – verify before use:
dtoverlay=dwc2,dr_mode=host
hdmi_group=2
hdmi_mode=82
hdmi_cvt 1920 1080 60 6 0 0
sudo vi /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf
xserver-command=X -s 0 -dpms
sudo nano /boot/config.txt
dtoverlay=uart3
sudo raspi-config
sudo reboot
Notes and version constraints
- Power supply requires 12 V/1 A with a 3.5 mm outer diameter and 1.35 mm inner diameter connector; alternative power supplies must maintain ripple within ±5%.
- With newer Raspberry Pi OS versions (after October 30, 2021), USB2.0 may report 'config failed, hub doesn't have any ports! (err -19)'; remove otg_mode=1 in the [cm4] section and add dtoverlay=dwc2,dr_mode=host to resolve.
- Installing the Magic Mirror system requires opening the back cover and mounting the CM4 on the board – step-by-step guidance required.
- Version-sensitive steps: Exact configuration options depend on the installed OS version; consult current documentation before making changes.
- Safety note: When using external power supplies, strictly adhere to ripple requirements to prevent device damage.
