Summary

The USB-CAN-B is an industrial USB-to-CAN adapter with two electrically isolated channels (CAN1/CAN2), integrated 3000 V DC isolation, built-in 120 Ω terminal resistors and a configurable baud rate from 10 kbps to 1 Mbps. It supports Windows and Linux as well as protocols such as CAN 2.0A/B, CANopen, SAE J1939, DeviceNet, iCAN and ISO 15765.

Technical overview

  • Two independent, fully isolated CAN channels with 3000 V DC isolation voltage.
  • Each channel includes two built-in 120 Ω resistors that can be enabled via switch.
  • Configurable baud rate: 10 kbps to 1 Mbps via software.
  • Transfer performance per channel: up to 8500 frames/s for both sending and receiving.
  • Buffers per channel: 2000 received frames, 1000 sent frames; automatic retransmission on failure.
  • Indicator LEDs: PWR (power), SYS (system status, lit on bus error), CAN1 and CAN2 (blink during data send/receive).
  • Aluminum-alloy enclosure with flame-retardant insulating sheets on both sides to protect against metal-tip discharge.
  • Dimensions: 104 × 70 × 25 mm; operating temperature range −40 to +85 °C.
  • Supported systems: Windows XP/7/8/10/11 (32/64-bit) and Linux environments such as Raspberry Pi OS, Ubuntu/Jetson Nano, and VMware.
  • Protocol support includes CAN 2.0A/B, CANopen, SAE J1939, DeviceNet, iCAN and ISO 15765.

sudo python3 python3-64bit.py

Notes and version constraints

  • According to the source, Linux drivers are still under development; some features on Linux may be limited.
  • The described steps target specific hardware platforms (Raspberry Pi 4B, Jetson); portability to other boards must be verified individually.
  • LabVIEW applications require the 'Run Engine' module during tool installation; without it, integration may fail.
  • Relay mode invalidates baud-rate settings; only send/receive and intelligent filtering remain available.
  • When sending a file, the file format must match the real-time storage format or the send will be rejected.
  • Detailed tool operation is documented in the separate user manual; this summary does not replace the full documentation.
