Technical overview
- The board has a standard M.2 B-key slot compatible with RM500U-CN, RM500Q-GL, RM500Q-AE and RM502Q-AE 5G modules.
- A USB 3.1 port (USB 2.0 backward compatible) connects the HAT to a PC, Raspberry Pi or Jetson Nano host.
- Two SIM card slots are onboard; SIM1 is active by default, SIM2 is on the back and requires module support plus AT-command switching.
- An onboard voltage level translator is enabled via a DIP switch to expose UART, PWR and RST control pins for hosts such as Raspberry Pi or Arduino.
- A USB Type-C connector accepts 5 V / 3 A input for stable external power; a separate power switch controls module power.
- Four antenna connectors are provided; a cooling fan cools both the Raspberry Pi and the 5G module simultaneously.
- Power consumption values depend on the selected module; the source lists figures such as 78 µA at shutdown and up to about 69 mA at USB 3.0 idle, varying by module variant.
- For first use under Linux, the USB device descriptor must be loaded; afterwards network access can be obtained via RNDIS or ECM dial-up.

Notes and version constraints
- Not all features (e.g., GNSS, voice calls via the headphone jack) are supported by every compatible module – verify which module is installed before deployment.
- Dual-SIM functionality requires explicit module support; some modules lack this capability.
- Some steps are version-sensitive: e.g., OpenWrt flashing, driver installation on Windows, or loading the USB device descriptor on Linux may vary by OS version.
- Compatibility with M.2 modules other than the listed 5G series must be checked against the pinout diagram; not every arbitrary M.2 module will work out of the box.
- When using with Jetson Nano: other Nano variants may need an adapter cable; Orin Nano systems require a verified JetPack 6.0 (Ubuntu 22.04) image.
