Technical overview

  • Designed for the Raspberry Pi series; the companion box targets the Raspberry Pi Zero series.
  • One RJ45 Ethernet port for wired network connectivity.
  • Three USB 2.0 ports; LEDs light up when USB devices are successfully enumerated.
  • For Raspberry Pi Zero, connect via ejector pins; for other models, use a USB cable.
  • Resources include the schematic, CP2102 driver, and a STEP file for 3D printing.
  • If recognition fails: check the USB connector or ejector pins for poor contact.
  • If the Raspberry Pi Zero's USB port is configured as a wireless network card, the system will not recognize the USB hub.
  • Under Raspberry Pi OS Trixie, disable Wi-Fi using nmcli; rfkill is incompatible with this version and would also block hub functions.
  • To disable Wi-Fi under Trixie: add dtoverlay=dwc2,dr_mode=host to /boot/config.txt.
  • Optionally remove module-load=dwc2,g_ether from /boot/cmdline.txt, then reboot.

Commands and examples – verify before use:

sudo nano /boot/config.txt
dtoverlay=dwc2,dr_mode=host
sudo nano /boot/cmdline.txt
module-load=dwc2,g_ether
sudo reboot

Notes and version constraints

  • USB booting through the hub is not supported according to the source; boot only via SD card is possible.
  • The sequence “power on the Pi first, then connect the hub” deviates from usual logic and requires manual verification.
  • Trixie-specific steps are version-sensitive and must be confirmed before execution.
  • No information on compatibility with all Pi models, power supply details, or safety certifications is present in the source text.
