Technical overview

  • Aluminum case for the Raspberry Pi 4 with an integrated M.2 expansion board and a USB connection for booting from an SSD.
  • The SSD is mounted on the expansion board; the SSD and the Raspberry Pi are not included in the package.
  • To install the system, first write the system image to a TF/SD card, then insert the card into the Raspberry Pi.
  • After first boot, update the system and firmware (apt-get update/full-upgrade, rpi-update) and reboot.
  • Use raspi-config to set the boot order to “USB Boot”, configuring the SSD as the default boot device.
  • Use the “SD Card Copier” tool to copy the system from the SD card to the SSD; the process takes about 10 minutes.
  • A fan driver is installed via script; afterwards the desktop shortcuts “configure” and “uninstall” plus the commands argonone-config and argonone-uninstall become available.
  • Default fan control: 10% at 55 °C, 55% at 60 °C, 100% at 65 °C.
  • The power button supports short press (shutdown), long press >3 s (shutdown), double click (restart), and long press >5 s (forced shutdown).

Commands and examples – verify before use:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get full-upgrade
sudo rpi-update
sudo reboot
sudo rpi-eeprom-update -d -a
sudo raspi-config
curl https://download.argon40.com/argon1.sh | bash
argonone-config
argonone-uninstall
xrandr
xinput
xinput map-to-output <touch ID> <HDMI-ID>

Notes and version constraints

  • Exact compatibility with a specific SSD model must be verified before purchase; the source does not list supported drives.
  • The boot process depends on the Raspberry Pi bootloader version; older boards may require additional steps.
  • Installing the fan driver requires network access to the given download link; without connectivity it will fail.
  • For dual-display configuration, actual xrandr/xinput IDs must be determined and adapted in the autostart file; the example page only shows sample values of ID 7 and HDMI-1.
