Technical overview
- Resolution: 16 × 12 pixels (768 IR sensors total)
- Interface: I2C, high-speed mode up to 1 MHz, default address 0x33
- Operating voltage: 3.3 V / 5 V; current draw ≈ 12 mA
- Field of view: 55° horizontal, 35° vertical
- Operating temperature: -40 °C to 125 °C; target temperature range: -40 °C to 300 °C
- Accuracy: ±2 °C at ambient 0–50 °C
- Frame rate: 0.5 Hz to 64 Hz, configurable via control register 0x800D
- Dimensions: 28 mm × 16 mm, mounting hole 2.0 mm
- Reading patterns: chess pattern (factory default) or TV interleave
- Measurement principle: weighted average of object temperature within FOV; object should be fully inside the field of view

Notes and version constraints
- The source contains conflicting resolution data: the title states 32×24, while the body text says 16×12 pixels. Product metadata confirms 16×12 – please verify before publishing.
- Up to four bad pixels may occur; they are marked in the EEPROM and are stated not to be covered by warranty. Recommendation: average neighboring pixel values.
- When using on Raspberry Pi: avoid static discharge, check power polarity, do not unplug cables during operation and avoid strong vibration (EEPROM can be damaged).
- The listed commands refer to a specific Waveshare firmware/code version; compatibility with other MCU platforms (STM32, ESP32) is only described as a wiring diagram in the source, without executable commands.
- The FAQ section mistakenly mentions MLX90640 instead of MLX90641 – possible typo in the source; detection distance (detectable at ~1 m, contour lost at 5 m) applies only under the stated test conditions (room temp 26 °C, dim light).
