Summary

The Waveshare XBee USB Adapter is a UART communication board featuring an XBee interface and a USB port. It primarily serves as a baseboard for the Core2530 (B) module, enabling serial firmware updates via the bootloader and supporting AT commands for configuring Zigbee settings.

Technical overview

  • The board provides a USB-to-UART bridge and offers an XBee socket for modules such as the Core2530 (B).
  • A Zigbee network requires at least one coordinator and one router; both must remain powered on and must not enter SLEEP mode.
  • End devices in the network can be battery-powered and support SLEEP mode, but they transmit data only through a parent node.
  • The built-in bootloader of the Core2530 (B) allows loading new firmware over the serial port without an additional CC debugger, provided the bootloader has already been flashed.
  • Programming the bootloader itself requires a CC debugger; pressing the RESET button on the debugger initiates the download process via SmartRF Studio.
  • After restart, a blinking LED1 indicates that no valid program exists in flash memory and new firmware can be loaded.
  • PC communication is handled via the ZBSCOMM software or directly with AT commands over the serial port at 38400 baud, 8 data bits, and 1 stop bit.
  • Broadcast messages reach all nodes in the network; P2P messages are sent to a single target address, while O2M targets multiple destinations.
  • AT+GETADDR is used to query each module's short address before setting up targeted communication.

Commands and examples – verify before use:

AT+RESTART
AT+RESET
AT+SET
AT+GETADDR
AT+GETIEEE
AT+GETFIEEE

Notes and version constraints

  • The exact parameters for AT+SET are incompletely specified in the source; full configuration values should be verified before use.
  • Using the CC debugger requires installing specific drivers; failures registering MSCOMM32.OCX on 64-bit systems require copying the file to SysWOW64 or System32.
  • Compatibility with XBee modules other than the Core2530 (B) is not confirmed in the source and should be checked before deployment.
