Technical overview
- Sensor: Sony IMX477R, 4056×3040 pixels (~12.3 MP), 1.55 µm pixel pitch, 7.9 mm diagonal.
- Output formats: RAW12, RAW10, RAW8, COMP8; integrated IR filter included.
- Jetson Nano compatibility: supported on JetPack 4.6+; older versions require an extra driver install.
- Raspberry Pi: only works with Compute Module boards; set camera_auto_detect=0 and add dtoverlay=imx477 in /boot/config.txt.
- Available lenses: 6mm wide-angle, 16mm telephoto, 25mm telephoto, 35mm telephoto, 8–50mm zoom.
- Lens mounts: C-mount and CS-mount options; CS kit includes a C/CS adapter ring.
- Jetson Nano test: GStreamer pipeline using nvarguscamerasrc, NV12 format, 1920×1080 at 20 fps.
- Dual-camera setup: use sensor-id=0 or sensor-id=1 to select the respective camera feed.
- Raspberry Pi test: run libcamera-hello -t 0; output appears on an HDMI/DP display.
- White balance may be inaccurate in varying lighting; manual gain adjustments can correct it.
Commands and examples – verify before use:
sudo /opt/nvidia/jetson-io/jetson-io.py
DISPLAY=:0.0 gst-launch-1.0 nvarguscamerasrc ! 'video/x-raw(memory:NVMM), width=1920, height=1080, format=(string)NV12, framerate=(fraction)20/1' ! nvoverlaysink -e
DISPLAY=:0.0 gst-launch-1.0 nvarguscamerasrc sensor-id=0 ! 'video/x-raw(memory:NVMM), width=1920, height=1080, format=(string)NV12, framerate=(fraction)20/1' ! nvoverlaysink -e
DISPLAY=:0.0 gst-launch-1.0 nvarguscamerasrc sensor-id=1 ! 'video/x-raw(memory:NVMM), width=1920, height=1080, format=(string)NV12, framerate=(fraction)20/1' ! nvoverlaysink -e
sudo nano /boot/config.txt
libcamera-hello -t 0
Notes and version constraints
- Camera only supports specific Raspberry Pi Compute Module boards – not standard Raspberry Pi boards.
- JetPack versions below 4.6 need an extra driver install; back up the system first.
- NV12 format: the “12” is a number, not a letter – mind this when entering commands.
- An HDMI or DP monitor must be connected before testing, as preview output goes there.
- White balance can drift under different lighting; manual adjustment may be required.
