Summary

The SIM7600G-H is a 4G/3G/2G/GNSS module (based on SIM7600E-H) with a USB interface, UART breakouts and an audio jack. It supports dial-up, telephony, SMS, TCP/UDP, HTTP/FTP, as well as GPS, BeiDou, Glonass and LBS positioning.

Technical overview

  • Interfaces: 40-pin GPIO extension header for connecting to the Jetson Nano; USB port for testing AT commands and retrieving GPS data; broken-out UART control pins for host boards such as Arduino or STM32.
  • Power: 5 V supply input; operating voltage selectable between 5 V and 3.3 V via jumper. Operating temperature range: -30 °C to +80 °C; storage range: -45 °C to +90 °C.
  • GNSS receiver: 16 channels, C/A code; tracking sensitivity -159 dBm (GPS), -158 dBm (GLONASS); cold start under 35 s, hot start under 1 s; position accuracy under 2.5 m CEP.
  • SMS capabilities: supports incoming (MT), outgoing (MO), CB, text and PDU messages; storage on USIM card and ME (default).
  • Audio: 3.5 mm headphone/microphone jack for making calls; supports echo cancellation and noise reduction.
  • AT command set: controlled via AT commands following 3GPP TS 27.007, 27.005 and V.25TER; default baud rate 115200, autobauding 9600–115200 baud.
  • Network modes: AT+CNMP? allows selecting the network mode (e.g., 2 = automatic, 13 = GSM only, 38 = LTE only, 48 = all modes except LTE).
  • Connection setup: The module can establish internet connectivity through NDIS or ECM dial-up; the NET LED indicates connection status (always on = searching/call, 200 ms on/off = data link up, 800 ms on/off = registered, off = powered down/sleep).

Notes and version constraints

  • Installing the Python examples requires downloading an external tar file from files.waveshare.com – verify source integrity before running.
  • When using minicom, ModemManager may produce spurious output; terminate the process first (killall ModemManager).
  • For GPS testing the receiver must be outdoors; cloudy or rainy conditions prevent reliable positioning. Allow ~1 minute after power-on for signal acquisition.
  • Always press Ctrl+C before exiting the Python examples so the module shuts down cleanly.
  • Exact antenna connector type per FAQ: IPEX-1.
