Summary

The board drives various Waveshare SPI e-paper raw panels and provides wireless content updates over WiFi or Bluetooth. It is based on an ESP32, supports Arduino development, and ships with an open-source e-paper driver preinstalled.

Technical overview

  • Key specifications: 5 V operating voltage, current draw approx. 50–150 mA; dimensions 29.46 × 48.25 mm; 4 MB flash, 520 KB SRAM, 448 KB ROM.
  • Pin mapping (fixed): DIN→P14 (SPI MOSI), SCLK→P13, CS→P15, DC→P27, RST→P26, BUSY→P25. No user configuration required for these connections.
  • Two switches: Switch 1 selects the resistor value depending on panel model (0.47 Ω for specific models, otherwise 3 Ω); flip if display quality is poor. Switch 2 toggles USB-UART power; when OFF, program upload is not possible.
  • Demos: local, Bluetooth, and WiFi demos are available in the Resources section; Android app source code and APK are included in the package.
  • Image processing: two algorithms – color-scale method and Floyd-Steinberg dithering – are selectable in the BT/WiFi demos.
  • Supported formats: BMP, JPEG, GIF, PNG and other common image files.
  • Bluetooth standard: 4.2 with BR/EDR and BLE; WiFi: 802.11b/g/n.
  • Typical applications: electronic price tags, name cards, and serial information displays with wireless image refresh.

Notes and version constraints

  • Panel-specific configuration: The correct resistor value depends on the exact panel model; when uncertain, set switch 1 to “A” (3 Ω) and flip if display issues occur.
  • Older panel versions: Demos reference the latest panel version; for older versions, check the label on the panel’s back to determine if a different demo is needed.
  • Driver selection: Serial chip differs by production date (pre-July 2022: CP2102, post-July 2022: CH343). Install the matching driver.
  • Mac users: If the board is detected but not recognized by Arduino IDE, review system security settings and driver installation.
  • Bluetooth scan in app: If no devices are found, enable location services and rescan.
  • No pricing, warranty, certifications, or safety claims exist in the source material – these topics were intentionally omitted.
