Summary

The Waveshare High-Precision AD HAT adds an ADS1263 with 10 channels and 32-bit resolution to a Raspberry Pi. It supports single-ended and differential operation plus three-wire RTD via soldered 0Ω pads.

Technical overview

  • Resolution: 32 bits; up to 10 inputs (5 differential pairs), max sampling rate 38.4 kSPS.
  • SPI signals: CS (P22/BCM), SCK (P11/BCM), DIN/MOSI (P10/BCM), DOUT/MISO (P9/BCM), DRDY (P17/BCM), active low when conversion is ready.
  • Default single-ended mode: AVDD tied to 5 V, AVSS and COM to GND; measure between an IN pin and GND/COM.
  • Enable differential mode: change REFMUX in ADS1263.c from 0x24 to 0x00 (internal ±2.5 V reference) and set ADS1263_SetMode(1); channel number must be less than 5.
  • RTD operation: solder four 0 Ω resistors on the rear “RTD 0R” pads, remove the COM–GND jumpers, connect RTD positive to IN7 and the other two leads to IN6 and IN4, then adjust the code accordingly.
  • PGA up to gain 32; the default configuration does not support PGA in single-ended mode – the internal reference must be changed.
  • Connectivity: AD header compatible with Waveshare sensor pinout, screw terminals for analog signal/power, and a control header for alternate hosts.
  • Supported GPIO libraries: BCM2835, wiringPi, lgpio and Python RPi.GPIO/spidev; on Bookworm only lgpio is available, and the Python demo runs without extra installation.
  • Demo codes come from the repository waveshare/High-Pricision_AD_HAT; compile the C demo with make (Jetson: make JETSON), run the Python demo with python main.py.

Commands and examples – verify before use:

sudo raspi-config
sudo reboot
git clone https://github.com/waveshare/High-Pricision_AD_HAT
cd ~/High-Pricision_AD_HAT_Code/c && sudo make clean && sudo make && sudo ./main
cd ~/High-Pricision_AD_HAT_Code/python && sudo python3 main.py

Notes and version constraints

  • The exact version of the demo codes and the repository name spelling (“High-Pricision”) may vary between builds; verify that the repository exists and is current before use.
  • RTD setup requires soldering and jumper changes – these steps are version-sensitive and should be performed by someone with soldering and hardware experience.
  • When changing operating mode or reference voltage, register values (REFMUX, SetMode) must be modified exactly as described; incorrect values lead to inaccurate measurements.
  • On Bookworm only lgpio is available; attempts to install bcm2835 or wiringPi will fail.
  • Missing context (e.g., target device pinout, external reference source) requires human confirmation before wiring the hardware.
