Technical overview

  • Core: PCA9685 PWM driver as the fan controller with automatic PWM adjustment
  • 0.91" OLED display (SSD1306 driver, 128×32 pixels, white, FOV > 160°)
  • 3007 fan with up to 8000 RPM
  • I2C bus for connecting other host control boards
  • 16 PWM outputs for external devices
  • Operating voltage 5 V, logic level 3.3 V
  • Mounting holes 3.0 mm
  • Comes with heat sinks
  • Connects via the 40-pin GPIO header of the Raspberry Pi
  • Temperature data is read in real time; fan speed adjusts automatically

Notes and version constraints

  • On Bookworm systems only the lgpio library is available; bcm2835 and wiringPi cannot be installed or used
  • The Python library does not need separate installation – the demo can be run directly
  • I2C must be enabled on the Raspberry Pi, otherwise error prompts appear
  • At low CPU load (~40 °C) the fan barely spins; it speeds up only when the CPU is under heavy computation
  • Higher fan speed produces more noise; this is physically expected
  • Version-sensitive steps: installation commands differ by OS branch (Bullseye/Bookworm)
  • When adding the autostart entry in rc.local, the lines must be inserted before 'exit 0','All listed commands are taken from the source document; verify compatibility with your current system version before running them
